The Tanya Fund – an Endowment for Writers
Tanya Shersnow touched many lives – through her writing, her support of fellow writers, and her courage. In addition to Balefire’s Heat, a collection of poetry originally posted on her blog, Tanya gave us bone-honest journal entries, and extraordinary, unforgettable characters. She extended and elevated the genre of Supernatural Fiction, and she also offered incisive perspectives on how we go about – and might go about – living together on this earth.
To honor Tanya’s legacy, and to extend her spirit of generosity to new writers, fellow writer Kevin Cooke created the Tanya Fund – an Endowment for Writers. “The idea that someone might have to forego the workshop because of financial worries was a wake-up call for me. I don’t have a whole lot of money all the time, but there are times when I can help out, and I wanted to create a way for people to do just that.”
When a person joins a workshop with the help of a scholarship, everyone benefits. New voices, new perspectives, and new possibilities extend our boundaries and strengthen our writing community.
So thank you Tanya for continuing to inspire us. Thank you Kevin for creating a means for extending writing opportunities to future writers, and thank you to everyone who has contributed $5, $20, or an extra weekly workshop payment to the Endowment. You are helping the world become a better and much more interesting place.
